Leigh Academy Oaks celebrates International School Award on 25th anniversary of the prestigious prize

Leigh Academy Oaks has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its commitment to delivering a global education to pupils.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the award, which celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in global education. The commitment to the award aligns perfectly with our IB PYP approach in nurturing and developing inquisitive and globally-minded lifelong learners.

Participation in the ISA has enhanced our curriculum provision, focused on real-world connections, and built strong cultural capital through knowledge, understanding, experiences and opportunities.

You can visit our school website here to see a selection of work that pupils and staff at LAO, and our link school in Malawi, have participated in.

The award ceremony took place at Westminster on Monday 20 January and was attended by Members of Parliament and representatives from schools around the UK as well as Principal of LAO, Luke Coulson, and Vice Principal, Aoife Mehigan.

MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, Helen Whately, said

“Congratulations to Leigh Academy Oaks for receiving the top-level Accreditation from the BritishCouncil International School Award.

The award celebrates schools which embed a global awareness into their lessons and school community. I joined Leigh Academy Oaks at the ceremony in Parliament and heard about their wonderful work on providing an international education for their students. It was great to see their efforts recognised and I was keen to hear all about their partner school in Malawi.”
